Trump, Lebanese president discuss Hezbollah disarmament
U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday met with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun at the White House and said the two leaders would discuss privately whether the United States would assist Lebanon in disarming Hezbollah.
"We have some very concrete plans already in store for that, with others going in and helping," Trump told reporters before the meeting. "But they're also becoming much more self-sufficient, and we will be speaking about that."
Trump also said he would be willing to speak directly with Hezbollah if requested by Aoun.
Kuwait says air defenses responding to hostile drone threats
Kuwait said on Wednesday that its air defense systems were intercepting drones after explosions were heard in parts of the country.
In a statement posted on X, the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces said air defense units were "currently responding to hostile drone threats."
The military said any explosions heard were "the result of air defense systems intercepting hostile targets," urging the public to follow safety and security instructions issued by the relevant authorities.
Iran says it launched fresh retaliatory strikes on U.S. bases, assets in Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan
Iran's armed forces said Tuesday they carried out fresh retaliatory missile and drone strikes against U.S. bases, assets and infrastructure in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan following another round of U.S. attacks on Iran.
Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) said in statements carried by its official news outlet Sepah News that its aerospace forces targeted U.S. air defense systems, radar facilities, communications infrastructure and other military assets in Bahrain and Kuwait, as well as U.S. military facilities in Jordan.
The IRGC said the attacks were carried out in retaliation for recent U.S. strikes on Iran and were intended to pave the way for broader missile and drone operations against U.S. military targets in the region.
Tanzania's Kigoma Region steps up Ebola preparedness over cross-border threats
Tanzania's Kigoma Region has intensified precautionary measures and emergency preparedness to prevent potential outbreaks of Ebola and other infectious diseases following reported health threats in the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), a medical official said on Tuesday.
Kigoma Regional Medical Officer Damas Kayera said authorities acted swiftly after receiving alerts about a possible Ebola outbreak across the border, given the region's strategic position along Lake Tanganyika.
"As one of Tanzania's border regions, Kigoma has taken critical precautionary measures since receiving information about the Ebola threat in a neighboring country," Kayera said, noting that healthcare workers at all levels have been trained to respond effectively.
