Iran to continue path of peace if U.S. builds trust: president

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Saturday Tehran will keep pursuing the path of peace under the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed recently with the United States, provided that Washington helps build an atmosphere of trust.

Iran is trying to move on the "path of peace" based on the "paragraphs" in the MoU, Pezeshkian said at a press conference, adding, "Now is the best time to reach an agreement, as there is solidarity, power and unity in the country."

"We are determined to ... use the MoU as the basis provided that the United States lets go of the atmosphere of distrust it has created, and an atmosphere of trust is formed," he said.

Turkish FM says newly-signed trilateral defense deal not aimed at Iran

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Saturday that the newly-signed Makkah Joint Defense Agreement does not target Iran, clarifying that the deal is defensive in nature and aimed at protecting signatories from external "attacks."

In an interview with Türkiye's Anadolu Agency, Fidan said "there is no common threat that we have put in writing," adding that the deal does not target any country that does not attack its signatories.

The deal, signed Friday by Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan in the Saudi city of Makkah, stipulates that any armed attack against one of the three countries will be considered an attack against them all.

Canada's British Columbia declares state of emergency over wildfires

The western Canadian province of British Columbia (B.C.) declared a provincial state of emergency on Saturday as fast-spreading wildfires threatened several communities.

Speaking at a news conference in Vancouver, B.C. Premier David Eby said the decision was necessary given the dynamic wildfire situation and overnight large-scale evacuations, which required specific tools to ensure public safety.

"The conditions of this fire are extremely dangerous and are changing minute by minute," Eby said, stressing that saving lives and supporting rescue efforts remain the government's top priority.

CENTCOM chief visits Israel for talks on multi-front situation

Brad Cooper, chief of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), arrived in Israel on Saturday for a several-hour visit, Israel's state-owned Kan TV News reported.

During his brief visit, Cooper met with Israeli military chief Eyal Zamir and other senior commanders to assess the current multi-front situation, Kan reported.

It reported that the U.S. military remains on high alert in Israel, where dozens of U.S. fighters, refueling aircraft, air defense systems, and thousands of U.S. troops remain deployed.

Ukraine reaches deal with U.S. on monthly deliveries of interceptor missiles: Zelensky

Ukraine has reached an agreement with the United States on monthly deliveries of interceptor missiles for the Patriot air defense system, although the supply remains insufficient, Ukrinform news agency reported Saturday, citing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Speaking to reporters in Belgrade, Zelensky confirmed that Washington will supply Ukraine with interceptor missiles on a monthly basis. However, he stressed that the volume falls short of meeting the country's air defense needs.

Zelensky noted that the number of interceptor missiles Ukraine is expected to receive in 2026 would be lower than in 2025, without disclosing specific figures.
