Hungary will not provide arms, troops to Ukraine: PM
ANKARA, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Hungary will not provide weapons or military personnel to Ukraine, Prime Minister Peter Magyar said here on Wednesday, while emphasizing Budapest's commitment to humanitarian aid and NATO unity.
Speaking to journalists before entering the NATO summit session, Magyar clarified the Hungarian government's stance on the ongoing conflict, namely that Ukraine is the "victim" and has the right to defend its territorial integrity.
"We maintain our humanitarian assistance to Ukraine but ... Hungary will not provide arms or troops to Ukraine," he said.
The prime minister said the decision aligns with a clear mandate given by the Hungarian electorate during the April elections.
Magyar also disclosed that he held a brief discussion with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday, adding that both leaders have agreed to hold a bilateral meeting in the near future. ■
